AVID National Demonstration School

Celebrating our status as a National AVID Demonstration School

We just recently re-validated again in term 3 of 2025 and we are proud to announce we have been awarded the highest accolade as an AVID National Demonstration School status which places WCC within an elite top 3% of all AVID schools worldwide.

AVID National Demonstration Schools are exemplary models of the AVID University and Career Readiness System.

Demonstration Schools undergo a rigorous validation process and are required to be re-validated every few years to ensure high levels of implementation, with quality and fidelity to AVID strategies schoolwide.

What does it mean to be an AVID Demonstration School?

AVID National Demonstration Schools are centres of teaching and learning that also serve as models for those interested in learning about the AVID University and Career Readiness System. They clearly demonstrate an ongoing pursuit of excellence, both in the AVID Elective and AVID Schoolwide, to ensure our students are university and career ready and ensuring improved academic performance for all students based on increased opportunities and support for success.

A National Demonstration School exhibits a readiness system that is evident across the school site through rigor and high expectations for all students. There is significant evidence of AVID impact schoolwide, particularly with the infusion of AVID methodologies in all domain content-area classrooms.

Schools interested in implementing AVID, or expanding AVID in their areas or at their schools, can arrange to visit a National Demonstration School and experience a highly successful AVID System in action.

At an AVID National Demonstration School, visitors can observe:

  1. AVID as a schoolwide approach to university and career readiness.

  2. Evidence of student achievement schoolwide.

  3. Strong and committed leadership to university and career readiness for all students at both school and area levels.

  4. A centre of learning for AVID best practices schoolwide.

  5. A committed team of trained AVID educators and staff developers dedicated to successful implementation of the AVID Readiness System for all students.

  6. Models for excellent inquiry-based AVID tutorials in the AVID Elective and Collaborative Study Groups (CSGs) in selected content classrooms.

  7. A showplace of the commitment and synergy that a strong AVID System creates for schoolwide pathway readiness and long life learning.
